Nagano Prefecture Wine Association
About us
Nagano Prefecture is located in the central part of Japan and a long
mountainous region stretching from north to south, surrounded by mountains
in the 2,000-3,000 m range centering on the Japanese Alps. It forms wine
valleys in inland basins with different climatic conditions in four areas:
Hokushin (northern part of the prefecture), Toshin (eastern part of the
prefecture), Chushin (central part of the prefecture) and Nanshin
(southern part of the prefecture).
Currently, the production and harvest of wine grapes in the prefecture is
one of the highest in Japan. In addition, wines made from grapes grown and
harvested in the prefecture have won numerous awards at the Japan Wine
Competition and international competitions, and have received high acclaim
both in Japan and abroad. This has significantly elevated the prefecture’s
recognition as a premier wine grape growing region. Also, Nagano wines
have been used in international conferences such as the G7 Summit and
their reputation is growing.
