Southern Nagano

(Suwa, Ina, Iida)

This area is home to many famous tourist destinations, including Yatsugatake Mountains, the hot spring areas of Kamisuwa, Shimosuwa, and Hirugami, and historical sites such as Suwa Grand Taisha. Thanks to its abundant sunshine and low rainfall, the region is well-suited for producing agar. On the other hand, the Iida Shimoina area located at the southernmost part of the prefecture enjoys a warmer climate with higher rainfall and mandarin oranges and tea are cultivated in areas bordering Shizuoka and Aichi prefectures.
